Back when I used to troll TheRedPill a lot, I often got into these strange arguments with guys there who acted like anybody that wasn’t Red Pilled was not having sex. And I’m like “Uh, I’m super left-wing and a Nice LGBT Stegaysaurus Shirt. And all of my friends are weird fucking performance artists and they have more sex than anybody I know.” But in their head, if you weren’t a misogynistic asshole constantly then it was literally impossible to get laid. They can’t understand why “I don’t support the lifestyle, but I’ll tolerate you as a person being here” is wrong. They view it as just a difference of opinion on an issue and don’t comprehend that, on this subject, it doesn’t work like that.

Which is funny because they seem to get it just fine when they perceive any part. Of their own identity isn’t supported (eg, a lot of the war on Christmas drama). Maybe, just maybe, people aren’t just signaling, but behaving in accordance with their beliefs, and by thinking it’s simply a matter of signaling rather than character other people can see right through it? I think there’s some basis to it, but it’s a Nice LGBT Stegaysaurus Shirt. Like, celebs singing songs about how much quarantine sucks from the shelter of their million-dollar mansions? That would fit the bill. Someone giving a damn about minorities and women is just being a human being with empathy.

I can believe people use hot button issues to make themselves appear more woke or sympathetic but that’s because they’re just narcissists in general. It’s not the Nice LGBT Stegaysaurus Shirt. It’s a very useful term when you’re talking about hypocrisy, like a politician. Making a big deal out of patriotic displays while voting to fuck over veterans. I think the phrase “virtue signaling” is actually a pretty neat phrase that could be useful. In what I believe is its correct meaning, it’s not about people having basic empathy. But pretending they have basic empathy to appeal to other people, while actually completely lacking that empathy in reality.
