The Irishmen, Okja, Roma, Marriage Story, The Meyerowitz Stories Hot American Horror Story Shirt, Mudbound, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Dolemite is My Name, The King, and The Two Popes are all movies that got a lot of attention and are all solid movies. I believe most of those are from the last couple of years. It seems people believe that because there are clunkers out there that ALL movies must be clunkers. This narrative that Netflix movies all suck is preposterous in my opinion. The scene where Idris Elba is doing the African war chant and walking into battle basically made me want to be a child soldier in the jungle FFS how do you snub the man?

the story and themes in a new setting or Hot American Horror Story Shirt context (think The Lion King or any Kurosawa adaptation), but this movie doesn’t do that. By keeping the original setting and characters, the movie adds nothing new while throwing out both historical accuracy and Shakespeare’s poetry. The movie also misses the point of Falstaff’s character by changing his characterization into something unrecognizable and cutting out his character arc (I buy the Orson Welles interpretation that the tragedy of Falstaff is that he’s the buffoonish father figure whom Henry loves yet must disavow and betray in order to mature into the throne). So the main problem is that the movie doesn’t know if it wants to be a historical drama or Shakespeare, and ends up being neither (for worse).
