I grew up in Happy Unicorn Dabbing Ugly Merry Christmas Shirt. Muskogee and knew about it. I continue to be surprised. By Tulsans who didn’t know about it. Everyone I know has heard of it. I’ve been living in Tulsa for about four years now and only recently learned about this. It’s good to see the Mayor supporting the movement to bring to light this horrible event. I also found out that there is a lesson plan developed in coordination.

Although I don’t know if this is the Happy Unicorn Dabbing Ugly Merry Christmas Shirts required material. Does anyone know what the reasoning is behind the cover-up? Did the white people feel ashamed of it even then or is there some other reason? Seems like if they felt justified then they would frame it as a “lesson” of some kind and make sure future generations knew all about it. It’s the same reason certain regions teach that the civil war was about states’ rights.
