Apple makes it inconvenient for independent developers to Don’t Have To Love It But You Don’t Have To Either Shirt put stuff on Mac without going through passing by the Apple gatekeepers, but it isn’t impossible. Devs can self distribute and ask users to manually override the security defaults to allow their apps to run. Also, even if you distribute the way Apple wants you to, devs can charge for content through any payment portal they please. Personally, that’s the part that I want to see gone. The fact that I can’t buy content from vendors I trust, e.g. Kindle books, without paying Apple is ridiculous.

Because Apple completely decimated their market share with Don’t Have To Love It But You Don’t Have To Either Shirt the horrible trash-can-Mac-Pro. They also phased out their rack mount hardware even earlier. Now that they’ve finally released a “real” Mac Pro they immediately announce the switch to ARM.I’m not sure if they are just short-sighted without Jobs, or if the creative enterprise market is just completely irrelevant to them now. But in less than fifteen years they’ve gone from the industry standard to a literal punchline. Nobody wants a thirty thousand dollar workstation with an extremely limited lifespan.
